Project Description

The Mazenod College Provence Centre is a specialist sports facility incorporating a large sports hall (creating the equivalent of three courts) linked to flexible classroom/function spaces and associated amenities. A basement car park with additional storage areas complements the spaces above.  MacLeod Consulting provided all structural and civil consulting engineering services for the project.

The building is highly architectural in nature, incorporating a number of artworks, display spaces and feature finishes.  Copper-clad cantilevering steel fascia trusses make a bold statement over and around the extensively facetted glazed main entry area and along the western elevation.

The post-tensioned concrete suspended ground floor slab is supported on a mix of precast panels and insitu columns.  Large (WB) section steel portal frames up to 12m high have been used to span the main sports hall, which can double as an assembly area for 1500 people with the use of retractable seating.  The adjacent two-storey spaces are also steel framed, with a post-tensioned concrete mezzanine floor supported on precast panel walls and steel columns.
